God of War III trailer confirmed to be real-time [UPDATE]

We have a new and extremely impressive God of War III trailer, but is it real-time?

The computer says..."Yes!"

David Jaffe was nervous that the community wouldn't be as impressed by the PlayStation 3 game as he was, but after you watch the trailer below you might be seeing things his way.

A SCEA representative contacted the MTV Gaming blog to let them know that the trailer's action is indeed taken from real-time gameplay.

The lack of orbs that usually release from killed enemies might have been removed from the PS3 game entirely in order to give the game a more realistic feel, or instead they might have just been removed just for the action trailer.

[UPDATE] - When we asked for a comment on whether the trailer was real-time or not from Sony ourselves, a representative replied:

"Confirmed. There was no post-work done on the trailer."

There you have it, the trailer is real-time, no arguments and you can watch it right here at Gamezine.co.uk

  • "Fantastic! Looks Awesome! Trailer is OMG!!! From start to finish, spectacular! This is how DMC4 needed to be dark and morbid with its original hero Dante... Anyway can`t wait to play THIS GAME 8-)"

  • "The animation is awesome, but it isnt good enough to be "cg alike". A lot of other games (including Xbox360 games) has graphic quality in the same level or above."

  • "I am impressed. Beats the heck out of the first teaser trailer. Perhaps in-game assets for a cinematic, hence the lack of orbs."

  • "If this is what the in-game engine is capable of, then that is simply amazing. Can't wait to see some gameplay footage!!"

  • "Nev do they have poor optitions in Brazil ? The visual quality is way above gears 2 and thats the best on the system. And comparing it to any other game on any conassole when the game is a year away is a bit silly. ITs got so much further work to be done, look how ropey the origional gears looked in the early days and buy the time they had nailed it it had inproved beyond recognition."

  • "Well - it MUST be if gamezine.co.uk has the scoop...too bad none of the legitimate game sites have this information... *ahem* and just because the assets are from the game it does not equate to REALTIME. Look at Uncharted, Heavenly Sword & many other PS3 games that use bluray to have artifact-free RENDERED GAME ENGINE cut scenes..."

  • "YourMother: The trailer has been confirmed to be rendered in-engine, in real-time. That's as much as we can tell you. Whether this is indeed what the gameplay will look like is another matter - what we've been told is that it will. As for Uncharted (we "scooped" that the Uncharted 2 trailers were rendered in-engine) the trailers are rendered in real-time in the PS3 engine and then recorded as video files to hide loading. Heavenly Sword does this, as well as rendering many of its cutscenes in real-time during the game. If we can find out more context, we will do so. Thanks for your comment."
